We envision a Seattle and Puget Sound region without exclusionary zoning practices where everyone has access to affordable housing options close to jobs, schools, and amenities.
YIMBY (Yes In My BackYard) stands for Yes to more neighbors, Yes to increasing density, and Yes to legalizing homes of all shapes and sizes.
Our motivations for our advocacy is as diverse as our members: We want to solve the housing crisis, overcome the social injustices perpetuated by current land use practices, and protect our natural environment and climate.
Who we are
Seattle YIMBY is a member-driven, volunteer-based organization. We are residents of Seattle. We are a mix of long-time residents and newcomers, renters and homeowners, business owners and employees, families and individuals, citizens and immigrants, commuters, bus riders, cyclists and pedestrians.
We always welcome new members and volunteers who want to join the movement for abundant housing, and bring their individual perspective and experience to the movement.
We want a more affordable and sustainable Seattle
We see friends, family, and coworkers priced out of our area. We see sprawl consume acres of wilderness and increase the number of cars on the road. And we see an alternative. We want Seattle to be an affordable and inclusive community. We can make Seattle a place with homes for all, and where you don’t have to have a car to get around.
